Nancy has been a NETA Brookline employee since day 1. She has worked one-on-one with patients of all different backgrounds and medical conditions. Nancy consistency receives great feedback, saying she goes above and beyond to make her patients feel comfortable and welcome.

Well, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Nancy’s daughter, Avra, spearheaded a cut-a-thon at her barbershop. On Saturday, October 13th, Ava and seven barbers from Waltham’s Finest Barber Shop cut hair and beards for 10-hours straight, from 9 AM to 7 PM. All the money and tips collected that day directly benefited the Epilepsy Foundation.

Additionally, Avra hosted a silent auction. She had several gift baskets, gift cards, and of course, the NETA Cares-donated prize: 4 tickets to the 2-day Red Bull Crashed Ice event at Fenway! Avra commented, “NETA cares went above and beyond with their donation. Waltham’s Finest Barbershop’s barbers want to thank NETA Cares for their willingness without hesitation to donate to our first fundraiser, and hope to work with each other again.”

Avra continued, “Epilepsy research is dramatically underfunded. The same amount of people die every year from epilepsy as they do from breast cancer. This is a huge number and yet they get 1/10th of the funding that breast cancer gets. Epilepsy researchers depend on fundraisers like these all over the nation to fund their work.”

The event raised $2,385 for the Epilepsy Foundation. Avra said, “It was way more successful than any of us thought it would be, and it’s all thanks to the wonderful items donated towards the raffle, and the generosity of the barbers giving up a Saturday’s pay.”
