This year marked the 14th year for the Annual Hot Chocolate Run benefiting Safe Passage in Northampton, MA. This iconic event welcomed over 6,000+ walkers and runners to come together for one goal: end domestic violence. Our employees and patients have always felt a special connection to this race, because, unfortunately, domestic violence is something that has impacted many of them. NETA Cares participated again in the walk/run this year, but also showed support as a sponsor.

NETA Cares invited all to take a chance and spin the wheel for a winter-themed prize. From texting gloves to chapstick, ice scrapers and hand warmers, every participant walked away with a little gift fit enough to face the cold temperatures that Sunday morning. There was also a winter wonderland frame, with an old-school Polaroid camera to capture some potential Christmas cards. We’d love to see your photos – tag us online!

Carol, Northampton PSA, commented, “I was overwhelmed with the turn out! Overwhelmed with our booth! I went home feeling better about a job and place I already love.”

The Hot Chocolate Run has had an amazing impact of the lives of women, children, and men affected by domestic violence. Safe Passage helps to find safety, fight for justice and rebuild their lives. It is true in saying that every participant can help – and together, hopefully, we can make this world a safer place.

Chris, Northampton PSA, said, “It was amazing to see how many showed up! Being a part of it was very inspiring. They’re going to be able to help so many people in our area.”

The Hot Chocolate Run is such a unique event—and it’s all hands-on deck. The Northampton Brewery has been making the hot chocolate since 2009. Our Family Farms, a small Western MA dairy farm, donates over 400 gallons of fresh local milk. Northampton Coffee donates all the high-quality cocoa, sugar and vanilla, a tradition they’ve taken part of since the very first Hot Chocolate Run in 2004.

John, Northampton Team Lead, remarked, “The Hot Chocolate Run is my favorite event in Western, Mass. To start they have a brass band, drum circles, cheering sections, and even Storm Troopers in the road race. But really, it’s an amazing cause that raises tons of funds for those in need. Helping their effort in the smallest bit makes you feel amazing!”

You can absolutely bet NETA Cares will be back to the Hot Chocolate Run next year, perhaps with even more participants! This has certainly become a part of our winter traditions, and we hope to continue to be a part of it for years to come. We wish everyone a warm and safe holiday season!
